Could Alibris Be The Perfect Amazon Alternative ?
If you’re looking for a simple extra cash opportunity then buying and selling books can be a good one. Books are light, compact and have high added value. Almost everyone buys books. Why, one of our experts here, Sharon Fussell runs a very successful business selling books on Amazon.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Amazon of course. But if you’re interested in selling books I wanted to tell you about an alternative site you can make some money on called Alibris. Alibris calls itself the premier online marketplace for independent sellers of new and used books. You can also sell music and movies there.
Alibris works very much like Amazon. It’s very simple to use and to list the books you have for sale on. But it has one or two advantages (I think) over Amazon. It’s slightly more – well posher isn’t really the right word – but more upmarket.
That means unlike Amazon it isn’t cluttered with sellers trying to sell things for a penny who make it difficult to make money. It tends to attract more serious buyers who’ll pay good money for good books. It’s also a much better to sell highly priced rare, collectible and unusual books too.
When you use Alibris you don’t have to go cold turkey on Amazon. Very cleverly, you can set things up so a listing on Alibris also goes onto Amazon, plus other partner sites like Borders and Barnes & Noble (you also get access to millions of buyers in the US by doing this).
Although I haven’t got exact figures, I think Alibris would probably work out a cheaper selling marketplace for your books than Amazon too …. so that means extra profit in your pocket.
